The Patient Account Representative is responsible for the accounts receivable data input, insurance follow-up, financial counseling, and self-pay arrangements.Â
Position Specific Competencies:
Effectively follows up with insurance companies on claim status and documents pertinent information in Med Series 4 notes.
Utilizes work lists/aging reports to follow up on all accounts in 30 days of last follow up. Expectation all accounts are to be reviewed and noted every 30 days.
Review billing edits ensuring all accounts are correct prior to transmission to Change Healthcare.
Timely reviews all accounts in Change Healthcare for errors and edits accordingly.
Timely review Change Healthcare Claims Dashboard for errors and accurate submission and documents accounts accordingly from the Change Healthcare Report Menu.
Timely submits requested information to payors for timely processing of claims when needed. i.e. Medical Records, itemized statement and etc.
Daily works Pymt/Adj report reviewing each account for accuracy in contactualls and adjustments that were posted from the previous day.
Daily works ADT report for Secondary Contractuals; writing up any contractual needed and give to BOM; also review for ICA admits ensuring documentation is put in folder for future billings.
Timely works cash batches ensuring EOBâ€™s are correctly posted, payments are according to contract and balance on accounts is correct..
Daily processes Credit Card payments and ensures settlements reports are accurate; also ensure payor code for credit card payments are entered on account for future posting.
Prints daily reports and distributes to staff accordingly, ensuring reports are scanned to BOM as needed.
Daily retrieves all voice mail messages returning all calls as needed; calls are to be retrieved by end of day .
Daily reviews all emails ensuring prompt responses to all customers.
Timely submit secondary claims when primary has paid on account; accurately changes f/c on account and ensures secondary contractual have been taken if needed.
Changes financial class when insurance has paid claim and reviews self-pay bucket in the billing revision screen to accurately reflect out of pocket due from patient.
Consistently works with UR staff on approved/denied days that are in dispute with insurance carriers.
Timely reports all denials to Director of Business Office and Director of URthat are not recorded on the UR Denial Log. (i.e.; COB denials, Pre-existing and etc.)
Uses appropriate transaction codes when writing up adjustment to give to BOM
Timely Identifies any contractual/administrative/charity adjustment not previously adjusted on account ; reports needed adjustmenton inquiry screen form and gives to BOM
Timely submits all adjustments to Director of Business for approval and data entry.
Identifies patient over payments and timely submits appropriate forms to Director of Business for processing refund to the patient.
Identifies insurance overpayments and notifies insurance company of overpayment.
Reviews credit balances due to insurance company and follows up on refund requests needed from the insurance company when appropriate.
Prior to processing patient refunds; verifies patient has no outstanding balances on previous visits/admissions.
Consistently completes appropriate refund form and attaches pertinent documentation to refund request prior to submitting to Director of Business Office.
Assists patients/families in a courteous manner when entering the business office for discharge from the facility.
Reviews expected out-of- pocket with patient/guarantor; ensures patient benefit form has been completed and signed.
Enters expected out of pocket in billing revision screen.
Verifies demographic information is accurate.
