This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be January 26, 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. The Nursing Assistant (NAs) positions are located on the Inpatient units, Resource management, Emergency Department, and in the escort department of the Medical Center. NAs are responsible for the entire scope of patient care, to include direct patient care, patient admission, discharge, transfer, errand duties, and delivery of medical supplies/equipment when needed. This is an active general medical and surgical medical center with a large ambulatory care program and an extensive research and professional training program affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. The incumbent assigned to this position is a member of the Nursing team. The NA is assigned by licensed personnel to care for the patients by taking vital signs, collecting specimens, performing EKG's, assisting with transport, and providing dressing changes, and usual daily activities to include bathing, linen changes, assistance with feeding patients, assistance with toileting, and post-mortem care. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides care to 1:1 patient. Assist with care for a group of patients on a designated unit Provides 1:1 observation for patients at risk for suicide or harm per policy/procedure. Demonstrates skill and knowledge as well as understanding the therapeutic aspect of the nursing assistant patient relationships and has been educated to recognize the importance of dealing with medical-surgical issues and complications. The issues are physical, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural. Assumes responsibility for patients who may be physically or emotionally unable to communicate their needs and who require skilled care. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in policies and procedures. Properly collects specimens and assures proper labeling and security of lids and bagging in biohazard bag before sending for processing. Assures that patients arrive at designated areas for tests and/or treatments on time. Transports and remains with patients when sent to other departments within the facility. Work Schedule: Day, Evening and Night Tours available. Selectee's specific tour will be determined by Supervisor/Manager upon hire, and will be based on the needs of the unit. May be required to work weekends, holidays during the week, and rotating on call, but must be able to change schedule to accommodate the needs of the service.
