The incumbent is the top executive within nursing and is a key member of the Senior Executive Leadership team, responsible for the practice of nursing 24/7 by all registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and allied nursing staff regardless of line authority. The incumbent has line authority over Deputy Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive, Pastoral Care Service, High Reliability Service, Sterile Processing Service and and Chief Nurse Ambulatory Care Nursing Service, Systems Redesign Section and two additional Chief Nurse Nursing Services. The Associate Director of Patient Care Services(ADPCS) will exercise final authority and approval over nursing care policies and procedures; nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services; standards of nursing practice; nurse staffing plans; and standards to measure, assess, and improve patient outcomes. The ADPCS will ensure that all registered nurses, advance practice nurses, and licensed practical nurses are licensed, certified, and/or registered upon employment, and thereafter. Will ensure a competency process is in place to evaluate individual practice, as well as a review process for annual performance ratings. The ADPCS and other nursing leaders participate with leaders from the Executive Leadership Team, management, medical staff, clinical and administrative areas in strategic planning and decision-making processes. Nursing leaders in all services are encouraged input into nursing policy development and may participate in the Nurse Executive Council Meetings, encompassing nursing management and staff development. Appropriate delegation of nursing activities is accomplished to nurse leaders in all services. The ADPCS/NE is a member of the VASNHCS Executive Leadership Team, along with the Director, the Associate Director, and the Chief of Staff. The ADPCS/NE participates fully in upper-level management decisions to speak on behalf of nursing and other hospital administration issues and is a member of all medical center-level Councils and Committees that govern and influence the operations of the medical center, such as the Nurse Executive Council, Quality Safety and Value Executive Leadership Board, Quality Executive Council, Whole Health, Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) Committee, and Medical Executive Council. ADPCS is fully involved in strategic planning with the VISN 21 Network Director and nationally.
