Position Summary:The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician is responsible for the processing and maintaining of all patient records received by the Health Information Department and for performing variety of functions in support of HIM. Work situations are repetitive and routine and require organization and attention to detail and the ability to work without direct supervision. Internal contacts include patient care staff and management. External contacts may include physicians, other allied health care providers, patients and their families, attorneys, insurance companies, and vendors.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of functions of an HIM department and established HIPAA confidentiality policies and procedures Knowledge of and skill in alpha, numerical, and terminal digit filing Knowledge of and skills in computer functions and capabilities Knowledge of basic electronic health record systems Skill in excellent customer service Skill in good oral, written, and interpersonal communication, good grammar and spelling Ability to work in a production environment, high volume, attention to detail, same redundant tasks performed in sequence Ability to read and follow instructions with limited supervision Ability to work with repetitive, detailed procedures Ability to interact with hospital and ambulatory staff at all levels Ability to work efficiently under pressure Ability to work independently and take initiative Ability to set priorities and use good judgment Ability to embrace cultural differences and work as a TEAM player
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School graduate or equivalent preferred One year clerical experience Medical terminology preferred
